Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026
This policy explains what Folderwatch does with your information. It is short because Folderwatch collects nothing.
Folderwatch does not collect, transmit or store any personal data. It has no account system, no cloud service and no analytics. Your files, your file names and your folder activity never leave your computer.
Information we collect
None. Folderwatch does not ask for your name, email address, or any other personal detail, and there is no sign-up or sign-in of any kind. The app contains no analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting service.
Your files and folder activity
Folderwatch watches the folders you choose and displays the changes it observes. This information is handled entirely on your own computer:
- File contents are never read. Folderwatch reports that a file changed, along with its name, its location inside the watched folder and its size. It does not open or inspect what is inside your files.
- Activity is kept in memory only. The timeline for each watched folder exists only while the app is running. It is never written to disk — there is no history file and no activity database.
- Quitting discards it. When you close Folderwatch, all recorded activity is gone permanently. Reopening the app always starts with an empty timeline.
- Nothing is uploaded. Folderwatch has no server to send anything to, and works with no internet connection at all.
What is stored on your device
So that you do not have to set the app up again each time, Folderwatch saves a small configuration file in your user folder. It contains only:
- the list of folders you asked it to watch, and their settings such as whether subfolders are included and whether watching is paused;
- your preferences, such as display language and how many recent changes each folder keeps.
This file stays on your computer. It is never transmitted anywhere. It contains no record of file activity. Uninstalling the app or deleting the folder removes it.
Third parties
Folderwatch does not share information with anyone, because it does not collect any. It contains no third-party analytics or advertising code.
If you obtained Folderwatch from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the download and any purchase or rating you make under its own privacy policy. That relationship is between you and Microsoft; Folderwatch receives no information from it.
Links that open outside the app
Choosing to rate the app or contact support opens the Microsoft Store or your own email program. Your operating system handles this in the normal way, and the app sends no information along with it.
Children
Folderwatch is a general-purpose utility and is suitable for all ages. Since it collects no data whatsoever, it collects no data from children.
